Track and Field: Off to a Running Start

Track and Field has been off to a stellar start this year, and their consistency seems to be unparalleled when it comes to conference play year by year. The team’s bond seems to radiate from every member of the team daily, and it shows on and off the field with both record breaking performances and friendships that the members of the team carry. As they wrap up the season in the coming months, they look to take home more awards and record breaking feats along the way.

Evangelia Berry ’26 had this to say about team culture: “Track and Field is always special because it's pretty much co-ed and includes multiple event groups, which means we have throwers, distance runners, mid-distance, sprinters, and jumpers all on the same team. All these people are able to come together, travel together, eat together, and cheer each other on as we compete for the same team.

“On our team especially, we want to focus on supporting one another and engaging in fellowship outside of practice – things like team dinners, movie nights, and bible studies. Everyone genuinely cares about each other as athletes and as people. Track for me has always been sweet fellowship and a lot of fun.”

She also said, “Coach K and Coach Nelson know the sport and know how to train their athletes. Because they are so meticulous and process-driven about the training they give us, we know as athletes that we can step into races primed to perform our best. The coaches also are really good about helping with the psychological side of competition, directing us towards confidence and mental-preparation for what we're about to do.”

It seems more than apparent that these two coaches have this track team prepared week in and week out. They seem to have a true bond with each and every member of the team as well, showing that the team is not only about winning but about growing as human beings alongside each other. The team also has different chemistry and culture from other sports teams because it is co-ed. They all train together, which seems to make this bond more special between the team as a whole. Covenant College is thrilled to see where the team goes from here. Remember to keep track of what comes next for this stellar team that seems to reach new heights week in and week out.
