Every single year after the College Football Playoff (CFP) concludes, seniors get invited out to practice against other seniors – to showcase their skills while under the guidance of National Football League (NFL) coordinators or position coaches. This year's Senior Bowl in particular has a ton of talent from higher end programs, as well as under the radar senior talents from lower end Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) programs or higher end Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) programs.
The Senior Bowl is highlighted by players like Jalen Milroe – the high end athletic quarterback who would tightrope between being a Heisman candidate or being heavily criticized, and Shemar Stewart — Electric Defensive End out of Texas A&M, who is on the other side of things. Shemar is projected to be a first round talent, but the Senior Bowl is giving him a chance to raise his draft stock for more potential money for the future pro. FCS players are getting their chances as well, such as Offensive Tackle Carson Vinson out of Alabama A&M. Carson has shown some electric reps in practice so far, and this performance has a chance to raise his draft stock from a potential UDFA (Undrafted) to a late round gem.
The Reese's Senior Bowl gives opportunities to most seniors within College Football, and it is such a great event for NFL fans to watch and players to compete in. In most scenarios that revolve around the NFL draft, being a senior drops the draft stock of certain players due to the worry of their age (rather than the skill they bring to the gridiron).
This is not only an opportunity for the players, but an opportunity for the coaches. Usually the coaches that get invited out to this event are position coaches that lean more so on the younger side, trying to get an upgrade in the NFL job market. These coaches get sent out to provide expertise to the position groups, and to bring back personnel to their team.
They often pull some of the coaches aside during the practices to ask them some questions, mainly pertaining to the senior bowl and the talents that are on the field – but sometimes they ask them questions about how they are enjoying coaching in said setting, and how they are coaching up the players that are there performing for NFL scouts.
