On Friday, November 12, students from all over campus congregated in the Chapel, all dressed to the nines, to witness the results of over a month of hard work from the residents of Maclellan and Rymer Hall: Mac Movie. As the countdown got close to zero and students walked down the red carpet lined isles, a buzz of anticipation filled the room. The building excitement erupted as the countdown ended and Maclellan president, Jacob Morosco, stepped on stage.

Mac Miller has been giving us new music for the past three years since his untimely passing. He died from an accidental overdose on September 7, 2018. There was a mix of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol in his system. His death came as a shock to many people as he was only 26. Miller, on his 2015 album, GO:OD AM, raps in his song “Brand Name” about how he does not want to join the 27 club which is a group of artists who passed away at the young age of 27. Miller’s untimely death shows us that we lost a creative person in his prime.

Last week, Covenant’s Theatre department made its return to live performances with the delightful romantic comedy She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith. Two of our seniors led the show for their capstones; Cara Smole (’22) as the director, and Emily Cothran (‘22) as the leading lady, Kate Hardcastle. Smole stepped in at the last minute to fill in for an actor who had to drop out of the show. Unsurprisingly, she took up the challenge and did an amazing job. Students, family, faculty, and community members who gathered at The Overlook were charmed by the comedy of the show and the talent of the cast.

Most of Monday, Sept. 20, belonged to the rain and fog. The walk to my classes, holding a broken umbrella above my head, had set me in a decidedly uncreative frame of mind. I wanted nothing more than to sit in my room for the rest of the day. However, my music professor required a concert attendance as part of our grade, so I went to see Karen Slack and Casey Robards perform in the chapel at 7 pm. The concert lasted about an hour, and by the end, I had nearly forgotten about the rain and drudgery outside. While I am not a music or art major, the concert nonetheless touched and challenged me in ways I could not have predicted.

Senior Art Majors Present 2021 Capstones
This year, Covenant’s art majors presented their senior projects for the first time since the pandemic hit. With so many COVID-19 precautions in place, there was no way for others to be able to see all the work that these students put into the last project of their college career. Two art seniors, Shelby Farrar ’21 and Bennett Sunder ’21, shared how they felt about the process of making their project and presenting it to the student body.

Taylor Swift Releases Re-recorded Album
On April 9, 2021, Taylor Swift released her re-recording of her Grammy-winning 2008 studio album, “Fearless.” This re-recording, “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” is a masterful recreation. In 2019, Swift announced that her first six studio albums had been sold against her will to Scooter Braun, who manages huge stars such as Kanye West and Justin Bieber.
