Founders Music Video

On November 5th, 2021, all of Founders gathered along with students from a mix of the residence and other buildings for the viewing of Founders Music Video. This year there were a lot of really great music videos that helped to show the hard work and dedication that went into the making of them.

There were songs from a variety of different genres, from pop to country to hard rock, that helped to make the viewing a success. The hosts of this year were Jon Schimpf ‘23, who is also the Founders president, and Evan Hokrein ‘23. They were able to entertain the audience and help everyone be able to have a great time.

Caroline Webb ‘23 enjoyed the hosts. “They’re just our peers but seeing them up there, all dressed up was super fun since we actually know and love them. They made it so fun with their jokes, skits, and energy to make everyone off the stage also super energetic for FMV,” she said.

This year, because of renovations to Belz tower because of mold problems, there were not as many halls that had videos to show. The halls were Mantown, First Belz, Balcony, Brethren, Jubilee, and Jungle. The awards that were given were 1st, 2nd, 3rd, fan favorite, and best actor.

The judges this year were Austin Wofford (Facilities), Matthew Bazzel (Financial Aid), Debby Toth (Mailroom), and Dr. Amy Bagby (Education).

The Fan Favorite this year was Brethren. Their song was “Enter Sandman” by Metallica. Brethren also won Best Actor with August Smith for his portrayal of Jason Vorhees. Their video showed the freshmen running from Smith the killer. It was interesting to see how they made a creepy video super entertaining.

The third place winner this year was Mantown, which is a combination hall of Ekklesia and Catacombs. Their video, according to Matthew Duncan ‘25, was about the “hooligans of Mantown going about wrecking havoc in various urban settings, backtracked to the Beastie Boys’ Sabotage.”

The second place winner was Jungle with their music video for “Tangerine” by Glass Animals. This video showed the girls of Jungle dancing and having a good time to the song that was playing. The director, Helen Shackelford, ‘24, drew pictures of all of them dancing and put it all together.

The first place winner this year was Jubilee with their music video for “Good Girls” by 5SOS. The best part of their video was Chris Cronk. This video showcased “good” girls getting into all kinds of trouble in various places.

Balcony did the song “Once In A Lifetime” by the Talking Heads, and First Belz did the song “Parked Out by the Lake” by Dean Summerwind. Even though neither of these halls were placed, you could tell that they had a lot of fun making and creating videos for others to see.

Some people were overstimulated by the show. “Even with earbuds it was immensely loud and I spent one of the videos on the ground because the lights were flashing so much. Thank you to the hosts who gave us a flash warning. It was definitely necessary,” Riven Lihos ‘22 said.

However, for others it was a fun community building event.

“I loved the community that brought the halls together for filming and seeing the work they put into their videos that really showed their hard work, creativity, and the community they already had or made in the process. Even if a hall lost, they were still happy about it and proud of themselves, or should be, of all the work they put into it!” Caroline said.
