As spring semester has started to draw closer and closer to spring break, so too has baseball season kicked off these past couple weeks! The baseball team is sitting on a three game winning streak, so far, having played both Greenville University and The College of Wooster in three game series’.

While their only loss was the last game of the series against Greenville by one run, which David Lovell ’27 called a “very frustrating loss,” they have rebounded and currently stand at 5-1 at this point in the season. Comparing this to last year's start, where the team was 2-4 by this time, this is a remarkably better start to the season! And not only this, but the morale of the team is incredibly high according to Lovell.
At this point, the pitchers in terms of the team’s overall rotation and the bullpen are looking very strong. The starters have been pitching consistently through all five innings, and relievers tend to come in for the last 4 innings. Even so, in the third game against The College of Wooster, Jonathan Glover ’26 pitched for six innings, with the reliever going in for three.
Last week’s game (February 21-22) against The College of Wooster did in fact turn out to be a sweep, though the first game was certainly a dogfight. However, after their tight win by one run in that first game, they “opened a can on them” according to David. This goes in line with the team seriously bonding as of recently, with the team chemistry really shaping up these past couple games.
Though Chris Savage, a star power-hitter for the team, suffered a season ending injury, David remarked that “seeing the 2nd and 3rd strong guys step up in a next man up mentality has been cool and inspiring to see.” And concerning himself, David said that he feels energized by all of this. He recognizes that “this is a grind, and that the grind is not easy nor meant to be easy,” and that their job is to take care of business one day, one pitch, and one hit at a time.
All in all, this team has had a hot start! So be sure to show out and support your Scots for more baseball games this year!
