The Lady Scots pulled off a huge victory to start off the homecoming festivities against the Huntingdon womens soccer team. The game started off hot with a very strong cross into the box by Emma Riggs ’25, with a great finish by AnnaLi Weekly ’28 within the first 10 minutes of play. The rest of the game was neck and neck but really saved by the backline of the Lady Scots as they showed strong defense throughout the course of the game to secure the win to move the team 20 5-2-0 and 1-0 in conference.

Sophomore center back Gretchen Caswel commented: “It was definitely very fun, a little nerve wracking for as many people that were watching us I will say. But, lots of fun to have all this support." Of the Scots’ stellar defense and their team chemistry, she said, “I think we had really good team chemistry last year and the freshman came in as we just built upon that. We are just one big family.”

Sophomore goalkeeper Bronwyn Kickasola saw her first homecoming start. “[I’m] feeling very good, we had a positive experience throughout the preseason, and we have had six or so games so far,” said Kikasola. “Today, we were calm, cool and collected, and the team did not seem to be frantic, and it was fun to see everyone come out and have a good time.” She said about playing in the backline being the main feature of the goalie position: “...we just have an incredible defense this semester, honestly probably the best in the conference I would argue. Our offense is also doing a ton of work as well, and I really have a lot of hopes for this season. I see our defense working extra hard and not everyone sees that from the fan perspective with the positioning, and the movement as they dictate the pace of the game. That all comes through communication; without that we would probably give up a lot more goals.”

The mens soccer team took on a different opponent for their homecoming matchup—the 3-3-1 Emory Eagles. This game was tight from start to finish as the goal drought on both sides was broken by the Scots in the last ten minutes by Kade Theunissen ’25. They finally broke free from the tight Eagles defense as Whitt Tisdale ’26 fired it to Theunissen for a great and emotional finish to put the Scots up 1-0. The Scots defense really came to play, as Emory had many chances, but the Scots kept putting bodies in front of their shots and passes to give the men’s soccer team the shutout victory for homecoming.

Theunissen had this to say about his last homecoming game, “Man, it’s surreal just to score the game winner. When the ball hit the back of the net, it was all a blur from there. Only three minutes left, so I had to take off the shirt for the celebration.” And of his team, he said, “The brotherhood that this team is, is unmatched. We go to war for our brothers, and there is no other feeling like it. We battle for each other, we bleed, we sweat, and we cry for each other and just keep this team together so we can pull out wins like this.”

Freshman striker Jackson Bostrom said of this first homecoming game, “I’m feeling great. It was a great win.” And what he sees on the field that may not be seen from the fan perspective—“Man, I just see a lot of dawgs out there, a lot of dawgs. We work harder, we work better, and you honestly can't beat a lot of dawgs protecting their home.” And this about continuing to pursue song writing: “Of course, more stuff coming out soon.”
