Scots Tennis had a wonderful time in Texas. I feel like we really bonded together and grew closer as a team. We spent our first night in Waco and the next four in Austin, where we spent most of our time.
We competed really hard as a team and got two solid wins. We also competed very well against the number 17 team in the country. We came to realize our ceiling and just how much we can hang with top-tier teams in Division III.
Of course, the food in Texas was amazing. We ate lots of Torchy’s Tacos, barbeque and consumed quite a bit of Dutch Bros. Coffee.
At the end of the day, it’s not the wins and losses that define us—it’s the memories of long car rides jamming out to our favorite tunes, devouring the post-match burgers at Whataburger, and the thoughtful conversations we had in the hotel rooms. I think this Texas trip really proved that.
If there was one word to define our trip, it would be “fight.” We are the “fighting” Scots. We will persevere and give it our best to the very last ball. We love to encourage each other and push each other on through our matches and the most common word of encouragement this past week was “fight!”
In addition to playing five matches, we had Sunday and Monday off and got to sight-see around Austin. We went to see the University of Texas’ campus and some of us even got some Longhorn swag. After that we saw the state capitol building in downtown Austin, full of rich history and beautiful architecture. Some of the guys on the team also saw Bee Cave, an area of natural beauty outside of Austin.
Our Texas trip was a wonderful experience and something we will never forget. We’ve still got a lot of our season left! Go Scots!
