Nothing has been more exciting and shocking than the sudden turnaround from the New York Mets this season. They were expected to be towards the bottom of the NL East and were slotted with the worst financial burden in Major League Baseball. The season began as expected for the Mets as they were below .500, sitting at 28-37. The turnaround started with a marketing idea to bring McDonald's mascot, Grimace, into the building for the first pitch, and ever since this first pitch was thrown, they have proceeded to go 61-38. The first series that included Grimace after a 20-game stretch to where they only won 8 games featured a series win against the Miami Marlins. Players over the field have embraced this as some players have worn purple shoes, started other trends such as the "OMG" sign, and most recently, the playoff pumpkin for the dugout. The turnaround started as a joke, but it continued to become a reality throughout the rest of the season heading into the playoffs as they beat out a couple of teams to give their team a chance in the wildcard. The Mets ended the season hot with series wins, and that same hot streak went into the playoffs as they beat the Milwaukee Brewers and then went into the NL Divisional and did the same thing off the bat of Lindor, their superb pitching, and Grimace, of course. They head into the NL Championship against the Dodgers, and as of October 17, they are down 1-2 in the series, but can they make another turnaround as fans are now showing up in Grimace gear to try and spark the New York Mets once again? Thanks to this unreal hot streak featuring this unofficial mascot, Grimace now has a purple seat in the stadium for the mascot to sit in during the game. The fans and the organization are buying into this unreal turnaround around the purple mascot.
