Covenant volleyball took a three set sweep over Wesleyan and Belhaven in their double header this weekend. The games this weekend marked the end of regular season play and secured the Scots’ spot as regular season champions.
Belhaven fell first. Game one for the weekend ended in just over an hour. Rachel Bartlett ‘24 dominated the offensive attack coming in with 21 assists overall. Meanwhile, Summer Johnson-Northcutt ‘23, Emma Kalbfleisch ’23 and Kyla Bailey ‘24 hammered home the win, the three of them leading the team in kills and shutting out any chance for a Blazer victory.
Defensively, Grace Logterman ‘23 and Johnson-Northcutt took the lead with four blocks, while transfer Hannah Haerer ‘25 trailed not far behind, getting her hands up for three blocks. Libero Anna Baldwin ‘25, Bartlett and Bailey hit the floor to defend Scots territory and lead in digs for the team.
Shortly thereafter, the Wesleyan Wolves suffered a fate similar to that of Belhaven. Covenant took 44 kills against the Wolves. Taylor Caldwell ‘24 led with 11 kills overall. Bartlett took the lead with assists again, but Amber Snook ‘26 got her hands dirty taking 15 assists for the game.
Baldwin, Bartlett and Anna Vereen ’25 led the team in digs, keeping Wesleyan kills down to 17. Haerer dominated the net, blocking four shots from the Wolves. Kalbfleisch contributed two blocks while Caldwell added one, altogether quelling Wesleyan attacks.
These games marked the end of regular season play, but Scots volleyball isn’t finished. Tournament play kicked off November 1 with the Scots enjoying a bye and taking on the first round winner between the Wesleyan Wolves and the Agnes Scott Scotties. But for now, seniors Baldwin, Caldwell, Johnson-Northcutt, Kalbfleisch and the rest of our Scots can relish in being crowned the first ever Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Women’s Volleyball Regular Season Champions!
