This year at Covenant College, we were privileged with another arrangement of cinematic performances from our friends in the Maclellan-Rhymer dormitory building. Every hall in the building created a short film over the course of this semester and presented it for the whole college on Saturday, November 11 in the chapel at 7:30 p.m. Every hall was also tasked with creating a movie poster for their hall’s movie.
As per tradition, for the Mac Movie premier, the dress code was black tie, which serves as a taste of the excitement of spring formal next semester. This year’s Mac Movie hosts were Isabella Duran and Eli Dougan. One of the games included was Noodling Around, an audience competition where four students try to get the most macaroni noodles on their spaghetti noodle without using their arms. Another was Stand and See, where everyone was instructed to stand and asked to sit down if a statement that the hosts made applied to them.
This year’s Mac Movies included “Judge Judah” (Lawrence), “Trapped on the 5th Floor” (Halcyon), “Mission Impossible: Operation Gus” (Chi Alpha), “Living in Luxury” (Rowan), “Boogeyman” (Harambe), “Kansas Jones” (Suburbs), “Get Lowe” (The Five Points), and last but definitely not least, “The Sutherland Society: The Final Chapter.”
For the last two years, Sutherlands has gone home with first place, and for the last three years, they have won People’s Choice. With creative directors, writers and editors like Javan Fales, Tallis Finch and Caleb Kleinmann, the movies only get better as the years go by. The Sutherland trilogy not only has entertaining plotlines but also artistic and professional cinematography. These movies are unique and instantly recognizable. This was the final chapter of their trilogy.
As far as the other awards, the Best Comedy went to “Judge Judah.” Best Actress went to Abbey Headley, the star of “Trapped on the 5th Floor” by Halcyon; the Best Actor award went to our very own host, Dougan. The Best Editing award went to Sutherlands (the editor was Kleinmann). Third place went to Harambe, second place went to Suburbs, and first place went to Sutherlands. As for our Favorite Faculty Feature, our beloved Ms. Sheila won. Ms. Sheila made multiple appearances in numerous movies this year, and luckily, she was in the audience to claim her award.
It goes without saying that this year’s Mac Movie was quite an eventful one. Make sure to attend next year to see remarkable performances by Mac.
