On October 12th, the Covenant College Community received an email stating that Dr. Brad Voyles had been unanimously elected to serve as the 7th president of Covenant College. Since the spring, when Dr. Derek Halvorson stepped down from the position, a search committee had been formed, completing a rigorous search process for Covenant College’s new president. After competing with several interviewees, Dr. Voyles was selected on October 12, 2023.
Brad Voyles has been serving as the dean of students at Covenant College since 2005. He has been serving as the interim president since June 2023, and the Covenant College Board was happy to elect him as president.
According to the email sent by Dick Bowser, “Over the years, he has provided leadership in other areas including admissions and financial aid, facilities and business operations, and the COVID response team.” Dr. Voyles was appointed as the interim president in June 2023, and has been serving the community as such since then.
In his address in a video linked in the email, Voyles expressed his and his wife Kelli’s gratitude for the Covenant College community, remarking, “We have been inspired by your courage, your creativity, your curiosity, your care for one another, and certainly, your commitment to Christ and His Church.” Voyles wants to work to create new ways to inspire, equip and send out growing numbers of new students, while staying true to the Covenant College mission.
When Dr. Voyles was introduced the next day in chapel as Covenant’s president, the student body gave him a standing ovation and warm round of applause. The Covenant students are enthusiastic about their new president!
