And when I finally reached it,

Read moreWalter Slide is a beloved Chattanooga rock group. Walter Slide is a band which transports its listeners to a place of contemplative bliss. The basslines are impossible not to dance to, and the lyrics are so funky that you have to work not to memorize them. Their songs are so melodic that it’s easy to be transported to another plane.

Read morei. November
Creeps like lichen on limestone,
And a fresh wound is like a clean shave
Old sweater stained with new coffee, drugged
Caffeine, fluoxetine, nicotine, cucumber slices
ii. December
Read mirrors and look in books
Tell me where your favorite reflection is
Winter is when words win
I’d rather be written than reign
iii. January
New Years’ is exhaled: Camel smoke and cold-weather-hot-breath vapor
Crush the filter - more menthol that way
I cut my hair 3 times in as many months
I am afraid that when I learn to live, I won’t have time
iv. February
When the warm weather comes
I want my body back, action
Potential poetic melancholy is poisonous
And the pills don’t ever treat the pride
I elect this morning
Not to step on the crusted leaves
My footfalls are silent
The melody remains in tact

Which never quite taught me how to sit still
But instead that it is never okay to chew
On the tingy-copper-quite-improper

Barnacled chain pulls in vain to break
I heave to and fro in cursed spells
Like a warrior against water drake
Read moreCharlie Brown is a classic during the holiday season. Whether that’s because of seasonal depression, family tradition, glee for Lucy and Charlie’s dynamic, or for Linus’s gospel message, we all have different reasons that “Charlie Brown Christmas” appeals to us. There are a few things I appreciate about the Peanuts when going into each holiday season, but the reason “Charlie Brown Christmas” is the best Christmas show is because the characters are super relatable.
Read moreIn the spring of 2019, my family visited the grounds of Dachau, which was one of the first concentration camps used by Nazi Germany during the Second World War—now a memorial site dedicated to remembering the experiences of the thousands who were persecuted there. It was an eerie, heart-wrenching experience. While I was familiar with Holocaust history, being on the very site where such horrific abuse and hate were enacted was an overwhelming and powerful experience.
Read moreI dip the egg into the boil. My hands start to sag in the steam, and I quickly draw them out of the billows, and toss the shell into the faraway trash bin.
Read moreMy body is a crumbling temple,
It does not look it from the outside,
Not when I paint its exterior in brightly colored hues,
Or when I cover my skin in golden bangles and decorative dangles.
Rarely do the monuments from centuries before now
Look as old as I feel anyhow.
Read moreI listen to the bells of the Bergen Cathedral, ringing out even louder than the seagulls are laughing. If I were in that bell chamber with those massive church announcers, I could be judged. The sheer sound of a thing can kill. Resonance too powerful to withstand.

Holdridge started creating music about a year ago, but he has been playing guitar for three years. Holdridge’s artistic process varies greatly, but when it comes to music, what he enjoys most is playing with other people.

Read moreOn Saturday, November 18, Covenant College’s theatre department presented “Untitled Grief,” an original play written by senior Sara Rogers and directed by alumna Emily Cothran ‘21.
