When you are walking towards another person, there is a certain distance that we all know about (though I don’t suppose any of us could say what it is for sure) that you must be apart from the other person before you look up and make eye contact with them. If you try to acknowledge the person too soon, then you will have to awkwardly endure the time in between actually passing them without knowing where to look or whether you ought to say hi to them again as you walk by.

Astute students may have noticed that the Covenant College Theater Department has not produced many pieces of theater over the fall of 2020 and into this spring. However, this is not from a lack of activity. While the nature of pandemic restrictions has made it difficult (nigh impossible) to put on live theater for in-house audiences, the theater department has been creatively adapting behind the scenes and will soon be unveiling the results of their labor.

Put simply, it’s a transformative work, a piece of art that takes elements from a work and changes them, adding something new: a new setting, new characters, or perhaps a new piece of the plot.

In 2020, I tried something I’d never done in any meaningful capacity: I read international fiction. Reading from a multiplicity of backgrounds and perspectives has stretched and taught me in ways that stories based in the U.S. (or in another world altogether) haven’t, and I count that as a win.
Covenant Rents Out AMC Theater in Fort Oglethorpe
On February 19 the Campus Activities Board rented out the AMC movie theatre in Fort Oglethorpe. Covenant students were able to choose from different movie options, sign up with five of their close contacts, and get free popcorn and drinks all while following COVID-19 precautions. The movie choices were “The Notebook,” “Mission: Impossible - Fallout,” “Jurassic World,” “Crazy Rich Asians,” “The Lego Movie,” and “School of Rock.”

Just this February, Jon Foreman and Judah Akers, the frontmen of two alternative-rock bands, released new solo albums. Foreman continued his saga of solo projects with his album “Departures,” and Akers released a worship album called “7” under his (fully capitalized) first name, JUDAH.
