On November 5, Founders Hall put on their full-building event, Around Founders. The theme this year was “Flashback Founders, Founders Through the Ages.” Each of the halls chose a different theme based on different eras of history and decorated their hallway to create a walk-through experience for the campus.

Dr George Yancey: Conversations on Race

On Wednesday September 21, all of campus received an article from Associate Dean of Students Nesha Evans inviting all of campus to participate in a study of Dr. George Yancey’s book “On Racial Division,” which was published in March 2022, and written after the events following the death of George Floyd in the Summer of 2020. Yancey is a professor of Sociology at Baylor University and has been conducting research into issues of race relations for many years. He is a first generation college graduate and has published several books throughout his years.

Impacts of Hurricane Ian

“A catastrophe of biblical proportions.” This is how a team building the Margaritaville Beach Resort in Fort Myers, Florida, described the tragedy that occurred. On September 29th, a category 4 hurricane known simply by the name “Ian” struck the southwest tip of Florida. As the death toll continues to climb, Hurricane Ian has become the deadliest storm to hit Florida since 1935. With over 105 Floridians confirmed dead, the effects of the disaster are only just beginning to be reckoned with.

Return of the Highland Games

On a cloudy Saturday, the Scottish Highland Games returned to Covenant College for the first time in three years. Students gathered on the intramural field near Scotland Yard and formed teams (or better put, clans) to try their hand in various traditional Scottish sports and compete with their friends. Along with showing a ton of school pride, students worked to revitalize a classic Covenant event that has been on hiatus due to COVID-19.

Meet the Scots in their Majors: Abraham Fields

Hailing from Alaska, art major Abraham Fields ‘24 first found a love for art in high school. When it came time for him to choose a college, he started his search with Christian schools in California. After he found that California wasn’t the right place for him, his parents, who’d known people who’d gone to Covenant, suggested the school to him. Upon finding he liked the school, he enrolled, studying art with a 2-D and a graphic design concentration.

Conversations on Sexuality

As he began a two-part Perspectives on Gender series, Pastor Hunt Garmany said, “The brokenness of the fall has affected the essence of our femininity and masculinity more than we even know.” The next night, Covenant students saw these words visualized at Stand Up for Your Friend: An Event and Conversation About Consent and Sexual Misconduct. These two events were sobering for many students and are part of a larger effort by Covenant to raise greater awareness on issues of gender and sexuality.
